On the second day of our stay we decided to spend some time in Mattupetty dam. After a sumptuous breakfast we left our hotel at around 9 am. This is a place which you cannot afford to miss when you are visiting Munnar. About 13 km from Munnar , this dam was constructed as a part of the Pallivasal Hydroelectric project in the 1940's and has been used for power generation and water conservation since then. The calm and still waters in the dam is beautiful to watch.

You can spend time strolling down the dam enjoying the beauty or engage in horse riding or munch on some street foods. Horses are always described as a noble and majestic animal. Even so, our horse -riding experience with this noble creature was nothing short of a nightmare. It was our first time and after getting on it we felt quite unsafe. Only then did I realize the hugeness of the animal and the wide gap between my feet and the ground. It was very hard to balance and ride the horse. One lap was more than enough for us and I could sense the rumbles in its stomach. I could even sense it's fear when a car approached quite close to it. Anyways it is a one-time experience and you can get your photos printed instantly for 100 rupees.

About 1 km away Kerala tourism development authority has arranged boating and other activities. I and my husband took a speed boat ride and it was simply awesome. The ride gave me mixed feelings fear on one side and thrill on the other. Do not take your valuable belongings on this ride as there is high chance of losing it in the water. After all racing across the water is an adrenaline fueled experience. Other activities provided are zorbing, paintball shooting, archery. There are not too expensive and you can try them out.
